The LUMA Institute is a global leader in Human Centered Design (HCD), both helping others innovate with their HCD methods, and in training others in HCD. The practitioner certification process is just the first step in becoming a nimble professional, leading teams to be more innovative in what they make, how the think, and how they operate. Then comes practice.

Sometimes people who are novice to the practice of Human-Centered Design benefit from someone with more experience supporting them as a facilitator. In this role, I work with groups to understand what they are trying to accomplish, what they know already, and then plan workshops that can get us from where we are to where we need to be. Once planned, I then run the workshop guiding the team through the methods so that they can focus on the work, and I can worry about the mechanics and logistics of the session.

From LUMA: “The Practitioner Certification Program combines expert instruction in the LUMA System of Innovation, with hands-on training, peer-to-peer learning and on-demand resources to help everyone build skills and confidence thinking and working like a designer. Our two-day, in-person Fundamentals of Innovation workshop is now part of the Practitioner Certification Program.”

In addition to being a certified practitioner and facilitator, I am a certified instructor, teaching the fundamentals of innovation through Human Centered Design professionally. In partnership with other teams, I focus on enabling organizations I work with to be able to become certified practitioners themselves, and scale the practice of HCD.
